Her PhD was awarded for the work she did in BF Skinners learning lab at Harvard University. It was during her research and work at Harvard that her interest in child development was ignited. She went on to become a prominent figure who has had a lasting influence on the field of psychology. Best Known For: Research in developmental psychologyResearch on gender and sex rolesStudies on selective attentionInvestigations into the impact of divorceFirst woman to chair the Stanford psychology department How We Use Selective Attention to Filter Information and Focus Early Life and Education Eleanor Emmons Maccoby was born on May 15, 1917 in Tacoma, Washington. She was the second of four daughters born to her parents, Eugene and Viva. She married a psychology graduate student named Nathan Maccoby during her senior year of college and the couple later went on to adopt three children. She earned her bachelors degree from the University of Washington and went on to earn both her masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan. Career Maccoby worked briefly with behaviorist psychologist B. F. Skinner before she was offered a position at Harvard University by psychologist Robert Sears. Her early research included studies on the impact of television on children and investigations into child-rearing practices. Eventually, Maccoby began to feel that her gender was impacting her ability to attain professional advancement at Harvard, so she decided to take a position at Stanford University as a professor of psychology. Maccobys research turned to focus on the psychology of sex differences. Her work stressed the biological influences that lead to differences between men and women and suggested that social, cultural, and parental influences were not the primary determinates of gender roles and preferences. As part of her work with Carol Jacklin, Maccoby realized that much of the literature they were reviewing on sex differences had clear publication biases. While research existed on gender differences, much of it was unpublished and excluded from final manuscripts. The researchers decided to conduct a thorough review of the subject, including both published and unpublished research as part of their analysis. The resulting book, The Psychology of Sex Differences, is now considered a classic, cited by more than 5,000 other publications. Her work during the 1990s centered largely on the impact that divorce had on children. Her longitudinal investigations into the effect that divorce had on families led her to write two books on the topic, including Dividing the Child (co-authored by Robert Mnookin) and Adolescents After Divorce (co-authored with Christy Buchanan and Sanford Dornbusch). Selected Publications by Eleanor Maccoby Some of her best-known publications date back to the 1950s as well as much more recent works. One of her earliest texts on the subject of child development was Patterns of Child-Rearing, published in 1957. The book grew out of her large-scale study on child rearing, which served as an early work examinging parent-child relationships. Other books include the 1974 work The Psychology of Sex Differences and the 1998 book The Two Sexes: Growing Up Apart, Coming Together. Contributions to Psychology Maccobys work helped pioneer research on gender roles and sex differences. She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her work, including the G. Stanley Hall Award (1982) and the American Psychology Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award (1996). Among her many accomplishments, she also served as the president of Division 7 of the APA from 1971 to 1972 and was the first woman to serve as the chair of the Psychology department at Stanford University. Division 7 of the American Psychological Association also presents an award in her name, the Maccoby Award, to psychology authors who make important contributions in the area of developmental psychology. In one study ranking the 100 most eminent psychologists of the 20th-century, Maccoby was ranked at number 70. Other awards that she has won over the course of her career include the Stanford University Walter J. Gores Award for excellence in teaching, An APA Distinguished Scientific Contributions award, and a National Academy of Sciences award. Eleanor Maccoby turned 100 years old on May 15, 2007. We will write a custom essay sample on China U.S Business Partner or any similar topic only for you Order Now And China are the most influential countries In the current global Industry. What happens In the economic market In one of both countries directly reflect to the world economy. Even though they both have the substantial economic strength, they have nothing in common; the history, the way they have been developed, the impression that they show to the world, etc. Are all deferent. The way of becoming powerful countries are not easy to analyses with Just few theories. However. One of the important theories Is the difference in their regime which started to affect since sass. After World War II ends, the political regimes in both countries can be simple; China is socialist and the U. S. Is democratic. However, the world economy had kept changing. Now, things are different. The U. S. Has sucked to capitalism which Is reserved for democracy. On the other hand, China changed as time went by. It is arguable that communism or socialism would be automatic failure. Nevertheless, it is obvious that communism and socialism has closed or limited economic market which will demand one country the death sentence. According to Farley and Moss, the journalists of Society Science, in 1979, legislative reforms in China started the global trade within limited areas in Sheehan, Aisha, Shannon, and Examine. Now, the most markets in China are opened to visitors although there are strict policies (2009) and the current status of China is pre-modern, pre-capitalist, and feudalââ¬â¢ (Miningââ¬â¢, 2009). ââ¬ËFeudal systemââ¬â¢ was originally created In Middle Age which refers to the political, social, and military system related to the relationship between landlord and vassal (Dictionary. Com unabridged). A Journalist, Mining comments that China Is not yet fully liberal and also In capitalism. In the society, this means ââ¬Ëuncivilized. ââ¬Ë Considering all factors, China Is on the preemptively capitalist step In the concepts of Marxism which is the step to the civilized and liberal country. Acknowledged from the current Chinaââ¬â¢s economic strength in the world, the I OFF Any changes in business policies in one country affect companies in numerous ways in various sizes. The changed policies can be helpful and they also can give tremendous damages to the company. Since China and the U. S have different political regime, they have many similar polices but there are more differences. It is hard to decide which country is better to start a business if one has a chance. There are many factors that affect the decision to run a business such as the type and size of company, the current markets status, the government policies and etc. The sample example can be the manufacturing company and it is better to open the company in China because of the current possible crisis status in the U. S. , governmentsââ¬â¢ taxation to the manufacture companies for high GAP, cheap labors for lots of handy Jobs, First of all, China currently has more stable economy than the U. S. Has. There was Global Financial Crisis in the U. S. Which has commonly believed to have started in July 2007. The reasons are from complex matters. One definite factor is the sub- prime crisis from housing bubble and to overcome the crisis, the U. S. Government submitted $700 billion rescue proposal (Canasta, 2009). On Septet. 29, 2008, DOD Jones Industrial Average ends up down 777 points which was worst point loss in the history (Gibson, 2008). This collapse in the U. S. Economy influenced all other countries in the world. However, China is the only country who had a positive number of GAP in the ear of 2008 (Fordham, 2009). Even though, the U. S. Incredibly overcame the crisis in short period of time, there always is a possibility for another crisis and unstable economy. China has the highest GAP increase rate for decades. The U. S. Already has high GAP and definitely has better environment to run a business. China has lower GAP than the U. S. And it is a firm theory that lower GAP country has higher GAP growth rate. GHz, a Journalist of Journal of Economic Perspective, summarized that for decades, China is the only country who has two digit industrial growth rate (2012). These easily think as there are more chances to success in business and the higher chances make the environments change. Among countries, the developing country normally seizes the initiative. At the last 620 meeting in 2010, the U. S. Had to step back and give away few from China, especially on policies of currency changes, labors, and the U. S. Diplomacy which made better environments running a business in China than the U. S (Moronic, 2010). Higher growth rate country is better to starting a business than countries with low growth rate countries. Also, China has better taxation policies than the U. S. Has. Not only cheap labors help the company higher profits and chances of success, it is the government policies that helps running a business in China. China waives taxes from double tax to double taxes under numerous conditions. The conditions are very complicated but the big pictures of the tax waive condition is that the company must exports everything that are imported which means manufactured products with components from outside of China cannot be sold in China (Sharked, 2012). Taxes are very important issues to businesses from foreign countries and these waives helps a lot who wanted to start business in China. How to cite China U.S Business Partner, Papers

Thesis submitted in fulfillment of the Degree Master of Science in International Tourism Management Submitted to Dr. Ursula Christine Loisch Antonia Ria Markoulakis 1013003 Vienna, 8th June 2012 AFFIDAVIT I hereby affirm that this Master? s Thesis represents my own written work and that I have used no sources and aids other than those indicated. All passages quoted from publications or paraphrased from these sources are properly cited and attributed. The thesis was not submitted in the same or in a substantially similar version, not even partially, to another examination board and was not published elsewhere. Date Signature I II ABSTRACT Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a prevalent topic today whether it is in business or in academia. The last 40 years have seen a constant evolution of the concept of CSR and many things have been written about it. Today CSR practices do not constitute a matter of whether to implement it or not, but how to implemented it. We will write a custom essay sample on Dissertation or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The dialogue around CSR has seen a shift from philanthropic practices that aim to improve a companys corporate image to strategic CSR, which is aligned with a companys core strategy According to Porter? s (2006) theory, strategic CSR can lead to an added competitive advantage. When a social dimension is added to the value proposition of a company, making it an inseparable part of the companys core strategy then the most strategic CSR can occur. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate whether CSR strategies can improve the market performance of a company. The coffee sector was chosen as the field for analysis, as it is known for its numerous ethical issues and direct impact to so many lives. Six well known coffee companies with a combined revenue totaling almost 18 billion â⠬ were selected and analyzed. The study was based on a content analysis method, which tried to analyze and identify the CSR activities from all the data available from the companies websites. The findings reveal that companies that are turning over significantly more revenue than others, have the resources to act and showcase much more relating to their CSR activities and actions. Almost all the coffee companies analyzed place strategic CSR at the core of their strategy with Starbucks and Nespresso leading the way. Overall it was found that market performance is significantly improved by adopting CSR relating strategies. Further transparency is required to be able to measure and evaluate the CSR initiatives regarding their overall sustainability efforts, but as a whole the industry is by far in a much better position compared to other industries. There is a long way to go before an absolute social dimension can be created by all companies analyzed. Further research in the field is required to enable business and academics to create better evaluation and measurable methods concerning their CRS activities, possibly considering community and employee relations in a similar but larger study. Government should also get involved to introduce minimum sustainable standards and other industries should also get involved to exchange expertise in the field and take strategic CSR to worldwide acceptance. III IV ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The author wishes to thank Ursula Loisch for assisting and guiding her in her educational path.

2 Easy Examples of the Law of Conservation of Mass
2 Easy Examples of the Law of Conservation of Mass SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Chemistry is an important subject that youââ¬â¢ll definitely need to know if youââ¬â¢re planning to pursue a chemistry or other science major in college. One thing you should be familiar with is the law of conservation of mass. What is it? And how is it used in chemistry? Keep reading to learn what the law of conservation of mass is and how it came to be. We will also give you some law of conservation of mass examples to help you understand the concept better. What Is the Law of Conservation of Mass? First off, exactly what is the law of conservation of mass? This law states that in a closed system, matter can neither be created nor destroyed- it can only change form. Put differently, the amount, or mass, of matter in an isolated system will always be constant regardless of any chemical reactions or physical changes that take place. (Note that an isolated or closed system is one that does not interact with its environment.) This law is important in chemistry, particularly when combining different materials and testing the reactions between them. In chemistry, the law of conservation of mass states thatthe mass of the products (the chemical substances created by a chemical reaction) will always equal the mass of the reactants (the substances that make the chemical reaction). Think of it as being similar to balancing an algebraic equation. Both sides around an equal sign might look different (for example, 6a + 2b = 20), but they still represent the same total quantity. This is similar to how the mass must be constant for all matter in a closed system- even if that matter changes form! But how does the law of conservation of mass work? When a substance undergoes a chemical reaction, you might assume that some or even all of the matter present is disappearing, but, in actuality, it's simply changing form. Think about when a liquid turns into a gas. You might think that the matter (in this case, the liquid) has simply vanished. But if you were to actually measure the gas, you'd find that the initial mass of the liquid hasnââ¬â¢t actually changed. What this means is that the substance, which is now a gas, still has the same mass it had when it was a liquid (yes- gas has mass, too!). What Is the History Behind the Law of Conservation of Mass? Though many people, including the ancient Greeks, laid the scientific groundwork necessary for the discovery of the law of conservation of mass, it is French chemist Antoine Lavoisier (1743-1794) who is most often credited as its discoverer. This is also why the law is occasionally called Lavoisierââ¬â¢slaw. Lavoisier lookin' proud of his discovery. In the late 1700s, Lavoisier proved through experimentation that the total mass does not change in a chemical reaction, leading him to declare thatmatter is always conserved in a chemical reaction. Lavoisierââ¬â¢s experiments marked the first time someone clearly tested this idea of the conservation of matter by measuring the masses of materials both before and after they underwent a chemical reaction. Ultimately, the discovery of the law of conservation of mass was immensely significant to the field of chemistry because it proved that matter wasnââ¬â¢t simply disappearing (as it appeared to be) but was rather changing form into another substance of equal mass. What Are Some Law of Conservation of Mass Examples? Law of conservation of mass examples are useful for visualizing and understanding this crucial scientific concept. Here are two examples to help illustrate how this law works. Example 1: The Bonfire/Campfire One common example youââ¬â¢ll come across is the image of a bonfire or campfire. Picture this: youââ¬â¢ve gathered some sticks with friends and lit them with a match. After a couple of toasted marshmallows and campfire songs, you realize that the bonfire, or campfire, you've built has completely burned down. All youââ¬â¢re left with is a small pile of ashes and some smoke. Your initial instinct might be to assume that some of the campfire's original mass from the sticks has somehow vanished. But it actually hasnââ¬â¢t- itââ¬â¢s simply transformed! In this scenario, as the sticks burned, they combined with oxygen in the air to turn into not just ash but also carbon dioxide and water vapor. As a result, If we measured the total mass of the wooden sticks and the oxygen before setting the sticks on fire, we'd discover that this mass is equal to the mass of the ashes, carbon dioxide, and water vapor combined. Example 2: The Burning Candle A similar law of conservation of mass example is the image of a burning candle. For this example, picture a regular candle, with wax and a wick. Once the candle completely burns down, though, you can see that there is definitely far less wax than there was before you lit it. This means that some of the wax (not all of it, as youââ¬â¢ve likely noticed with candles youââ¬â¢ve lit in real life!) has been transformed into gases- namely, water vapor and carbon dioxide. As the previous example with the bonfire has shown, no matter (and therefore no mass) is lost through the process of burning. Recap: What Is the Law of Conservation of Mass? The law of conservation of mass is a scientific law popularized and systematized by the 18th-century French chemist Antoine Lavoisier. According to the law,in an isolated system, matter cannot be created or destroyed- only changed. This means that the total mass of all substances before a chemical reaction will equal the total mass of all substances after a chemical reaction. Simply put, matter (and thus mass) is always conserved, even if a substance changes chemical or physical form. Knowing this scientific law is important for the study of chemistry, so if you plan to get into this field, you'll definitely want to understand what the law of conservation of mass is all about!
